John O'Neal was born in West Texas about 250 million years too late to sail the local seas. During his formative years on the High Plains, he developed a deep love for the seafaring life despite growing up in the midst of sandstorms and tumbleweeds.

During his early twenties, he learned to sail small boats on Texas lakes. Later, while living in the Midwest, he moved up to auxiliary cruisers. He now captains a cutter rigged sailboat berthed on the Chesapeake.

His higher education began with abachelor’s degree in Psychology. This provided him with various rich employment opportunities including retail sales of ladies’ shoes, institutional credit and collections, and eventually the role of CFO for a large not-for-profit. Along the way, he studied Business and completed master’s degrees in Audiology and Social Work. Still feeling a bit undereducated; he completed a Ph.D. in Social Work and promptly retired. He now lives in Tallahassee, Florida and Frankfort, Michigan with his wife Sandra. He spends his time ashore writing tales of daring and adventure.
